Memorial service in remembrance of national revival champions

Children in national costumes, politicians and other people gathered today, August 31, in the yard of the All Saints Church in the capital to attend the memorial service dedicated to the champions of the national revival movement, buried in the Central Cemetery on Armeneasca St, Info-Prim Neo reports. Many of those who attended the memorial service remember very well the events in ’89 and came to the cemetery to lay flowers at the graves of those who fought for the language, nation and motherland. “My soul cries when I hear these songs. When the national assemblies started, I went there with the whole family, with my parents and my grandpa, a war veteran. We went there to welcome the Romanian language home”, said one of the participants. Asked what he thinks that Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici would sing today, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca says they would sing about fulfilling till the end the values and ideals from the years of national revival. “We’re at halfway now. Romanian language is home here. The holiday is complete. Now nobody puts pressure, nobody threatens. It’s free atmosphere, but the Romanian language still isn’t stipulated in the Constitution. So far, we travel in Romania and the EU with visas. These are the things that must be changed to fulfill those ideals”, declared Dorin Chirtoaca. Priest Ioan Ciuntu said that these people sacrificed themselves for our nation and faith. They did many beautiful things they left us as heritage. “They lived and burned like a candle. It was a continuous burning for our people and for out ancient faith. Here it’s a part of them, and when we look to the sky, we look to their other parts, their souls, which are watching us”, said the priest. Writer Valeriu Matei said that those who built this land with their bones and sacrifice, who gave us the chance to rise with dignity, are piously remembered. “Let’s cast away the yoke of slavery and bring homage to those who left us the heritage of our language, spirituality, country and unity, and especially the resolute faith in God and in the lasting of our people”, added the writer. Grigore Vieru, Leonida Lari, Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici, Gheorghe Ghimpu and other representatives of the national revival movement are buried in the Central Cemetery on Armeneasca St.
