Memorandum on Transnistrian conflict settlement reaches President
The memorandum on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, which was drafted by civil society, reached President Nicolae Timofti. Liubomir Chiriac, executive director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul”, has told Info-Prim Neo that according to the head of state, the document will be examined by a number of officials and will be then proposed for public debates.
“We had a discussion with President Nicolae Timofti, who listened to us attentively and mentioned a number of points of the memorandum. The President underlined the utility of this document and said that it should have been drafted long ago, but he is to examine it in detail,” stated Liubomir Chiriac, adding that work on the memorandum lasted long and the discussions on it may be also long.
A number of NGOs drafted a memorandum that contains solutions to the Transnistrian conflict. The document suggests resolving the dispute by peaceful political means, defining the administrative borders of the Transnistrian region in an organic law, liquidating the munitions stores existing in Transnistria, etc.
