The memoirs of the Ambassador of Hungary to Moldova in 1996 – 2000 Tibor Hodicska were collected in a book that was launched in Chisinau on June 19. The launch of the book “Between Moldova, Romania and Hungary: Memoirs of an Ambassador” brought together government officials of that period, diplomats and journalists, IPN reports.
Author Tibor Hodicska said this book is about the period of 35 years during which he worked for the diplomatic service of Hungary. He confessed that the long period between 1974 and 2009 meant for him a lot of work, many events, satisfaction and also a lot of experience. In the Socialist period, there was no possibility of openly discussing particular events and having bilateral meetings and the book presents those aspects that could not be published then.
Tibor Hodicska noted that the book contains a series of events and impressions from his personal life as well as details about talks held behind closed doors, hesitations, controversial assessments of political decisions and diplomatic delays that haven’t been made public.
Former President Petru Lucinschi said the former ambassador’s memories of his presence in Moldova are very fresh, while the Moldovan-Hungarian relations haven been always good. The events and personages described in the book are very close to him. “I think any book should be appreciated and perceived,” he stated.
Ex-Premier Ion Sturza stated that Tibor Hodicska has been a friend of his since he served as ambassador. “In the period, Moldova opened tens of embassies and as many embassies were opened in our country. The diplomatic presence of Hungary in Chisinau has always been felt, appreciated and very important for Moldova’s European destiny,” he said.
The chief of the portal www.stiripozitive.eu Igor Guzun, who edited the book and wrote the preface, said this book is for those interested in how an embassy is administered and in the bilateral relations, such as those between Hungary and Moldova, and, respectively, Romania. It is a book for those who want to learn about the relations between people, including politicians.
This volume of memoirs in Romanian, which contains 192 pages, appeared after Ambassador Hodicska in 2014 issued the book “Négyszemközt Ceauşescuval” (“In private with Ceausescu”) in Hungarian. The copies in Romanian will be distributed to bookstores. The launch was organized by the Foreign Policy Association.
