Members of “Promo-Lex” regret lack of access to Transnistria during two years

The Association “Promo-Lex” regrets the fact that the self-proclaimed law enforcement bodies of Transnistria two years ago started criminal cases against members of the association and since then they do not have access to the region to monitor the observance of human rights there. In a news conference on April 13, the Association’s executive director Ion Manole said that despite multiple requests, they haven’t been yet informed about the reasons why the criminal cases were started, IPN reports.

“We cannot say that our activity during the last two years hasn’t been affected. The impact was negative. The lack of access to this territory was a problem for us. We could not be present in the region to monitor the situation and discuss with victims so as to document particular cases. From a distance, the monitoring is not as efficient and comprehensive as the human rights monitoring methodologies require,” stated Ion Manole.

“Promo-Lex” calls on President Igor Dodon to raise this issue in his discussions with the Transnistrian leader. The Government of Moldova, especially the Reintegration Office, is asked to propose including the given case in the agenda of the 5+2 format meetings.

Ion Manole said that no information about the observance of human rights in Transnistria was available during two years. Civil society in the Transnistrian region is persecuted by the local administration for its involvement in monitoring the human rights, being accused of attack on the region’s sovereignty.
