A number of members of the People’s Movement “Antimafie” announced that they decided to defect the movement to the Party for Nation and Country. In a news conference at IPN, they said they took such a decision following the irresponsible actions of the leader of “Antimafie” Sergiu Mocanu and the acceptance of persons with doubtful integrity and professionalism as members of the movement.
“We shout “Down with the Mafia!” in front of institutions and it is good that we do this, but we promote the mafia inside our party,” said Petru Arman. According to him, the party is dominated by three persons – Sergiu Mocanu, Daniela Bodrug and Alexandru Florenta – who imposed a censorship regime in the party. “Igor Botan (political analyst, e.n.) said once that we do not have parties, but Ltds. I think this is wrong. We have feudalism, not Ltds,” stated Petru Arman, underlining that he does not leave “Antimafie”, but only suspends his work as its member in the hope that the party’s administration will resign after the elections.
According to Vitalie Taulean, former member of the National Council of “Antimafie”, 25 of the 40 members of the council left the party because the movement does not have an electoral strategy and because Sergiu Mocanu promotes utopian ideas. Another reason invoked is the lack of financial transparency.
Vitalie Taulean presented the last financial report of “Antimafie”, which shows that the party spent 1.5 million lei. The former activist of “Antimafie” inquired where this money comes from as they do not pay dues in the party and how this money was spent. According to him, the party spent 200,000-300,000 lei on meetings and public events, while the rest of the money was spent by Sergiu Mocanu. Taulean does not rule out that Sergiu Mocanu is financed by the Communist Party and fears that “Antimafie” could betray its voters, like the Christian Democratic People’s Party did in 2005.
Vitalie Taulean is sure that the People’s Movement “Antimafie” will win not event 1% of the vote in the November 30 parliamentary elections if its composition and its strategy are not changed. He said that the Party for Nation and Country will hold a meeting to decide whether to take part in the legislative elections or not.
