The parent education program Mellow Parenting, whose goal is to help parents develop parenting skills at different stages of the child’s development, from the prenatal stage up to the preschool age, has been launched in Moldova. This is based on principles from attachment theory, adult education and behavioral psychology, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family says the British Mellow Parenting model will be implemented in six regions of the country at first. In this regard, a training workshop for future practitioners is staged with the assistance of two foreign experts in Chisinau, on September 13-16. The practitioners will be licensed to implement the program.
“We all understand how important the support during the child’s first years of life is for ensuring a safe and healthy start. Therefore, it is important to offer the family the necessary support at the right moment, by ensuring its access to services related to parenting skills building as well,” said Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Stela Grigoras.
The results of the Mellow Parenting program implemented in Scotland in 2013 and 2014 show that the cases of depression and anxiety among parents decreased significantly. These became more confident, while the children behaved less aggressively. Also, the number of quarrels as a result of provocative behavior diminished.
