Moldova’s European journey and the importance of the support that Moldova receives from its partners were subjects discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, on the sidelines of the first intergovernmental conference to launch negotiations for Moldova’s accession to the European Union.
Dorin Recean said that Luxembourg serves as an example of prosperity for Moldova and emphasized the willingness to deepen bilateral relations in a number of areas. “Luxembourg is a safe and close partner of our country. Even though we are in different parts of Europe, we have a lot in common, and Luxembourg must be a model of development for our country”, declared the Moldovan prime minister, as quoted by a press release.
Dorin Recean also met in Luxembourg with Olha Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration. The two officials congratulated each other on the start of the historic process of accession to the European Union. The officials vowed to make efforts to negotiate the best terms of accession for the benefit of the citizens.
The Moldovan prime minister emphasized that strengthening the European community is particularly important considering the Russian aggression against Ukraine. “Accelerating accession to the European Union has become an existential endeavor for Moldova and Ukraine, so that we can ensure the security of our borders and citizens”, said Dorin Recean.
Dorin Recean and Olha Stefanishyna agreed to continue the dialogue and mutual support for joining the big European family, including by capitalizing on the assistance and expertise instruments offered by the EU.
