The nongovernmental organization Hyde Park Thursday staged a meeting to commemorate the victims of the April 7, 2009 protests, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Those who broke the law and those who directed on the spot – officials of the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor's Office – should have resigned that day, but they did not do it. No investigations were opened as all the illegalities were committed in state institutions,” said Ghenadie Brega, a Hyde Park member. Another participant in the event, Maxim Nedelcu stated for Info-Prim Neo that none of the instigators of the riots was held accountable. “Among the current leaders, only Mihai Ghimpu is taking steps to rehabilitate those victims. The other leaders - Filat, Urecheanu – did nothing. We have been tortured, but nobody was punished. The Communists have not been held accountable for what they did,” he said. “We are here to remind that innocent young people died as a result of those events. We must remember them and make their names part of history,” said participant Anatol Ursu. The commemoration event was organized exactly one year and a half after the April 2009 events.
