The political representative of Transnistria Nina Shtanski said the meeting of Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk will take place on the sidelines of the talks in Lvov only if the political representatives of the sides prepare solutions to the existing problems so that the two officials could sign agreements. The statement was made after a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Eugen Carpov in Chisinau on January 29, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Transnistrian press reported that the discussions centered on subjects concerning the organization of the next round of talks in the 5+2 format that is to take place in Lvov on February 18. Nina Shtanski said proposals concerning the meeting of Filat and Shevchuk were formulated, but the agenda will be agreed in the next meeting with Eugen Carpov. In a communiqué, the Reintegration Office of Moldova says that special emphasis in the meeting was put on the settlement of the problems existing in the socioeconomic sphere. The political representatives stressed the importance of instituting a common economic area between the two sides of the Nistru. “The creation of such an area is considered an important part of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, which would facilitate the solving of different technical problems encountered by the economic entities from both banks of the Nistru,” said Eugen Carpov. The political representatives also examined a document concerning the initial measures aimed at ensuring free movement with a view to strengthening confidence between Chisinau and Tiraspol. They discussed the possibility of creating a database for the Transnistrian units of transport and of registering license plates for them, in accordance with the international standards and requirements. The participants agreed that experts from the two sides of the river will work out a technical cooperation mechanism. Eugen Carpov was unavailable for comment, while persons in his anteroom told Info-Prim Neo that the Deputy Prime Minister was busy.
