The Medicines Agency has announced it is taking all stocks of the cough drug Eurespal, in both syrup and tablet form, off the market over safety concerns.
The Agency said in a press release pre-clinical researches have shown the active ingredient fenspiride can have cardiovascular side effects. Doctors are ordered to stop prescribing the drug, and patients are encouraged to report any side effects.
Drugstores in neighboring Romania also received urgent notifications to withdraw Eurespal, following its withdrawal in France, where the over-the-counter drug is manufactured.
