Medical institution manager caught taking bribe
Officers of the Anticorruption Center arrested the head of a national medical institution on suspicion of passive corruption. According to a communiqué from the Center, the manager asked for 300,000 lei from an economic entity to help him win a tender contest. The sum was to be paid in installments, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The man was caught in the act of taking over 61,000 lei in his office. The money marked’ ‘bribe’ was found in his bag. He voluntarily yielded it up to the anticorruption officers. Earlier, the man received a sum of 4 200 lei under the control of operative officers.
A criminal case was started over passive corruption. The manager is liable to a fine of 20 000 to 60 000 lei or 7 to 15 years in jail and will be banned from holding a certain post for a period of three to five year.
The man will be held at the Anticorruption Center’ remand unit for 72 hours. Steps are being taken to identify other high-ranking officials in higher institutions involved in this case.
