As from October 1, the examination of vehicle drivers and those who want to obtain a driver’s license will be performed by the family doctor at the request of the applicant. Information about the mental health issues or problems related to drug and alcohol use will be provided to family doctors by community mental health centers and the National Narcology Dispensary based on requests made by these, within three nonworking days, IPN reports.
The rules concerning the examination of vehicle drivers and those who want to obtain a driver’s license were modified at the suggestion of the Ministry of Health. Under an order, the given changes are aimed at simplifying the procedure for the medical examination of vehicle drivers and applicants for driver’s licenses of group I, categories AM, A1, A2, A, B1, B, amateur drivers.
The order stipulates that if the family doctor ascertains that the applicant suffers from one or more diseases and/or is under medical supervision for these or identifies risks and dangers that can appear while driving, this will have to consult the local driver medical examination commission that includes relevant specialists.
As to the obtaining of a driver’s license of group II professionals, the medical examination will be further performed by the local driver medical examination commissions. These will also examine persons who do not have a family doctor.
