Media outlets requested to ensure gender equality

The media outlets are asked to objectively cover the equality of chances for women and men. In a roundtable meeting, Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said the media is a very important element in promoting gender equality, IPN reports.

The official stated that when the parties observe the quota of women’s participation in politics, the media’s attitude to the women will change.

Director of the Association of Independent Press Petru Macovei said in February the men represented 73% of the protagonists covered by the media, while in July this figure dropped to 53%.

All the participants in the roundtable meeting said they will become more involved for the women and men to be treated objectively by the media. It was agreed to introduce an optional course at the faculties of journalism and communications sciences where to teach the future journalists to ensure gender equality in their articles.
