Media NGOs protest against hindering of press access to important events
Four media nongovernmental organizations expressed their concern about the limitation of the journalists’ access to the investiture of the President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti. The NGOs call on the authorities to take efficient and determined measures towards those who are responsible for such a situation, Info-Prim Neo reports.
”The signatories vehemently protest against the hindering of the journalists’ access to important public events as this is inadmissible in a democratic society. The journalists must be able to professionally cover the events and to have free access to the events of public importance,” says a statement signed by the Independent Journalism Center, the Journalistic Investigations Center, the Association of Independent Press, and the Free Press Association of Moldova.
During the investiture of the head of state on March 23, the journalists had to stay in a corner of the hall of the Palace of the Republic and weren’t allowed to go out. The signatories blame the State Protocol Service and the State Guard Service for that case.
