Media nongovernmental organizations condemn the new threatening statements made by the mayor of Orhei town Ilan Shor, the president of the Shor Party, against journalists, IPN reports.
The NGOs remind that after an investigation featuring Ilan Shor that was conducted by Jurnal TV, Shor recommended the journalists to immediately look for a new job as his party will come to power after the parliamentary elections of next February and Jurnal TV, which he called “media garbage”, will be closed.
It is for the second time during the past three months that Ilan Shor threatens the journalists for publishing investigation articles featuring him. The organizations warn the Prosecutor General’s Office that the threats made by the mayor of Orhei against journalists are illegal and are liable to punishment. Such an aggressive attitude to journalists runs counter to the European democratic norms and is not compatible with the status of person holding a public post.
The NGOs demand that Ilan Shor should review his assertions and should stop the attacks against journalists.
The statement was signed by the Independent Journalism Center, the Association of Independent Press, the Journalistic Investigations Center, the Association of Independent Tele-Journalists, ”Acces-Info” Center and the Committee for the Freedom of the Press.
