The media and civil society in Moldova are not free and represent only the interests of backers Such statements were made in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.

Political analyst Valentin Dolganiuc leveled harsh criticism at the mass media and civil society of Moldova. “Until 2009, there were persecuted those who stated publicly their opinions that didn’t suit the then government. Those who took over in 2009 followed another path. They instituted media monopolies that promote only the conceptions and policies of the owner. I am not invited to some of the talk shows because I tell things as they are. Moreover, the police officers, judges and prosecutors who tortured and tried young people in commissariats after the April 2009 events were promoted instead of being tried,” he stated.

As to civil society, Valentin Dolganiuc said it is anemic and is at the oligarchs’ beck and call.

Alecu Renita, who heads the Ecologist Movement of Moldova, said civil society almost does not work. “There are over 100 nongovernmental organizations in justice, but corruption flourishes in the judicial system. There are many NGOs working in the area of human rights, but the situation in this field is deplorable. Our civil society does almost nothing. It takes no attitude and most of the times asserts that everything is fine, in accordance with backers’ instructions,” he stated.
