Medals for Nistru war veterans
About 50 veterans of the Nistru war were awarded the medal “In the Country's Service”. “The experience and knowledge gained by the veterans throughout life are important for us. I'm sure you will cultivate the patriotic and civic spirit and the respect for the oath of allegiance to the country in the new generations,” Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta said at the award ceremony.
The minister handed over money awards to the widows of the war veterans and said this support is tribute paid to all the soldiers killed in the line of duty.
An exhibition dedicated to those who died in the armed conflict on the Nistru was opened at the National Army's Military Museum on March 1. It contains about 200 black-and-white and color pictures by well-known Moldovan photographers and personal pictures of the participants in the war.
In a communique, the Ministry of Defense says 29,000 persons participated in the Nistru war of 1992. 286 of them were killed.
