Measuring your life in kilometers
Over 30 people from Drochia district have to go to Chisinau 2-3 times a week for hemodialysis. It's their only way to stay alive, and this means over 1,000 km made weekly, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The health problem makes quick progress and leads to death, if they do not get the hemodialysis in due time,” says Tudor Cojocaru, the director of the Drochia district hospital.
The manager believes the authorities should intervene to set up local centers of purifying the blood with artificial kidneys.
“If we managed to open a hemodialysis section in Drochia, we could serve patients from Donduseni, Soroca, Rascani, Briceni and Ocnita. We have the room and the specialists. We just need the equipment which costs 2.5 million lei,” says Tudor Cojocaru.
The distance from Drochia to Chisinau is 167 km. The hemodialysis procedure lasts about 4 h.
