Ten units of transport and one consignment of IT equipment were donated to the Customs Service within projects funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Organization for Migration. The donation comes to develop the capacities for processing and accelerating the cross-border flow and also to strengthen the mobility and operational capacity of the Customs Service, IPN reports.

Customs Service director Igor Talmazan said that one of the projects refers to the registration of means of transport, transfer, analysis, exchange of data at national level and with Ukraine. Within another project, the Customs Service received a donation of IT equipment and servers, smart monitors that transpose the necessary information at border crossing points. As part of the same project, the Customs Service was equipped with the ten units of transport.

The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks said that this EU donation worth €1.3 million reflects the long-standing cooperation with Moldova in support of the joint border control with Ukraine. This assistance will support the Moldovan Customs Service, will play a crucial role in facilitating trade and will enable to maintain security and safety for all the people living in the Republic of Moldova. The support will strengthen cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine through their joint border control effort and will assist Moldova in aligning its customs system with the EU acquis.

Lars Lönnback, IOM’s Chief of Mission to Moldova, noted that the Customs Service must prioritize three principles: resilience, adaptation and integration. The donation of generators is designed to help the Customs Service to work without interruption. The goal pursued by implementing projects is to adjust local practices to EU standards. The EU will continue facilitating these processes.
