The French companies Edenred and UP Moldova point out the entailed risks in the cancellation of tax facilities of meal vouchers to the government, the Parliament and the President’s Office. According to the operators' press release, "the consequences of such a decision would be bad for all the actors involved in the process: employees, companies, public authorities and traders".
The statement says that the fiscal framework modification, after a single year since the launch of this social innovation, will inevitably affect the private sector in Moldova. According to the operators, 25% of private sector employees who benefit from the program and their families will be affected, as well as over 650 companies that provide meal vouchers to their employees. At the same time, there are 1300 commercial units that have invested in informational systems development in order to improve meal voucher management throughout the country, for the benefit of their customers, who will lose their investment.
The operators add that meal vouchers are not only beneficial in terms of employees’ dietary health, but also a country wide economic growth mechanism. Meal vouchers contribute to the fight against the informal economy and contribute to the significant purchasing power increase of citizens, especially those with lower salaries, and thereby increase the multiplier effect.
