The head of Scholar management section from the General direction of education, youth and sports, Vasilita Iluta, has stated for Info-Prim Neo that from September 1, over 33 thousand pupils from Chisinau will have their breakfasts in their school’s eating hall, and this number is 14 thousands greater than last year. According to the quoted source, all pupils from I – IV grades and 6 thousand pupils from poor families from V – IX grades will be fed. The cost of the breakfast is estimated at MDL 3. Almost 1.5 thousand pupils with extended hours will be offered a free lunch; the cost of the lunch is estimated at MDL 7. For children from auxiliary institutions funds of MDL 12 per person will be allocated, and in sport schools between MDL 8.90 and 19. In general boarding schools and boarding schools with special regime, the interned pupils will be granted with MDL 15 meals, while other pupils will have MDL 12.5 meals. A government decision compels local authorities to offer full financing of meals for children of the I-IV grades, at an average price of MDL 1.5 per meal. In order to assure a more consistent lunch, Chisinau Municipal Council decided in February 2005 to nourish only half of the pupils with a double ratio of MDL 3. The local budget has assigned an additional MDL 9.1 mln in order to provide with food all children from the I-IV grades. Approximately 29 thousand children are enrolled in the I-IV grades of Chisinau.
