Mayors orders installation of green arrow signs in intersections
Green arrow signs meant to streamline the traffic have been installed in 27 intersections in the capital. The installation of another 57 would soon be coordinated, the head of the public transport and communication ways Adrian Boldurescu reported during the City Hall operative meeting. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca is unhappy that since March 2011, when the first signs have been installed, the works have halted, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I already regret starting this initiative. It’s not normal. The police, instead of smoothing the traffic, don’t even issue the necessary papers for us to install the green arrow signs. They proposed it, not me”, declared the Mayor.
“I want these signs to be installed in the majority of intersections in the city until September 1”, said Dorin Chirtoaca. “You don’t need much knowledge for it, only will”, he added.
The traffic lights with arrows to the right have been installed in several intersections in the summer of 2011 in order to reduce traffic jams. Several months later, the Government decided to replace them with signs with arrows to the right. The black panels with green arrows pointing rightwards were meant to streamline the traffic in densely circulated intersections. They allow the driver to turn right regardless of the color of the main traffic lights.
