Mayors of three villages elected on July 17

All the three villages that held mayoral elections on July 17 chose their mayors, the Central Election Commission has said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. As many as 525 electors of the 1,047 who marked their ballots in Carpesti village of Cantemir district voted for the candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party Vasile Ciobanu. His Liberal opponent Ion Bazu polled 517 votes. The competition was as stiff in Popeasca village of Stefan Voda district. Independent candidate Chiril Cojocaru won the elections by a margin of only nine votes. His opponent Ana Nimerenco, who represented the Liberal Party, was beaten by a score of 670 to 661. Independent Gheorghii Palic was elected mayor in the Gagauz village Kotovskoe by 258 votes. His Liberal-Democratic rival Svetlana Regus garnered 187 votes. A runoff vote was held in the three villages after the June 19 elections were invalidated owing to the violations committed in the voting process.
