Mayors disapprove of bill on local public finances
The Association of Mayors and Local Collectives of Moldova considers that the financing of the local public authorities according to principles that are based on the revenues of the administrative units will impoverish the communities. The new principles replace financing according to costs and are defined in the new law on the local public finances that is under public debates, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Mayor of Balti Vasile Panciuc, who heads the Association, told a news conference on May 5 that the mayors decided to make their position on the bill public following working meetings organized by the Association's executive committee in Stauceni, Balti and Stefan-Voda.
The Association's executive director Mihai Perebinos said the financing based on the size of revenues
is not safe, especially in Moldova, where the economic situation is unstable, there are no reliable sources of income and the economic capacities do not cover the necessities of the local authorities.
The Association of Mayors and Local Collectives submitted the conclusions and proposals concerning the bill on the local public finances, which were formulated at the organization's general assembly, to Premier Vlad Filat.
