The Chisinau Mayoralty suspended the idea of constructing a new trolleybus line to the Chisinau International Airport, although previously it was planed alongside with enlarging the portion of the roadway Botanical Garden – Airport. According to the interim Mayor’s counselor, Tudor Garbu, the economic calculations proved that the trolleybus line will not justify the extremely high expenses, because in this region a small amount of passengers is circulating. He said that at the moment the buses are sufficient for passengers’ transportation. Thus, Garbu mentioned that the discussions on the construction of the trolleybus line will be resumed together with the development of the Chisinau infrastructure, possibly in the Airport region. The enlargement of the mentioned part of roadway is included in a list of 25 projects of the Mayoralty; the local authorities have at present only concepts. The mentioned part of roadway has a length of 7 km and the costs are estimated to 112 million lei, including the expenses for the illumination of the streets. The reconstruction concept of the mentioned part of roadway will be examined in the near future by the leadership of the country, in order to finance the works from the state budget because in the local budget financial resources for these works were not directed. According to Garbu, in the case the financing will be approved, the works will start in the second half of 2006.
