Moldova failed to develop a functional local autonomy and get rid of political criteria in making budget distribution arrangements. The statements were made on Sunday, April 17, at Publika TV, by Labor Minister Valentina Buliga, the Democratic Party’s candidate for the seat of Chisinau Mayor. According to Valentina Buliga, Moldova must apply the European Charter of Local Self-Government regardless of who was mayor or prime minister. “We must continue to improve the legislation. We must be united in making sure that the laws are applied and the local self-government is based on clear principles and mechanisms of forming the local budget”, she said. Victor Bodiu, head of the Government’s Chancellery and also Liberal-Democrat (PLDM) candidate, said he had spoken to current Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. “We’ve met a couple of times. For his part, Dorin Chirtoaca looked forward to retaining the Mayor’s seat as the Liberal Party’s candidate.
