Mayor of Drepcauti to be trialed for influence peddling

The mayor of Drepcauti village, Briceni district, has been charged with influence peddling and is facing up to five years in jail or a fine between 2000 and 3000 conventional units. The investigation has been completed and the charges have been filed in court, IPN learned from a press release of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to the prosecution, in 2015 the mayor asked from a businessman half of his company’s stock or the right to use the 688 hectares of land that the company was leasing from the Drepcauti community.

In return, the mayor claimed he would influence other authorities to side with the businessman in the criminal and civil cases he was involved in, or he would make sure the company would lose these cases.
