Mayor of Chisinau will start investigation to establish persons to blame for death of child hit by block of concrete

A month after the death of a six-year-old child, who was hit by a block of concrete that fell from the fifth floor of an unauthorized building in Rascani district of Chisinau, none of the functionaries of the district head’s office assume responsibility for the tragic accident. The Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said he will start an investigation to identify the persons to blame. Reghina Apostolova, the interim head of Rascani district, said that the employees at the district head’s office have been recently appointed and cannot bear responsibility for an unauthorized construction built more than a year and a half ago. Moreover, Apostolova says, no resident of the area complained when the building was being erected. Dorin Chirtoaca said that at the next meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council they will cancel an earlier ordinance issued by the local authorities under which the unauthorized buildings could be authorized. The mayor says that from 2001, the local administration cannot take decisions to demolish the unauthorized constructions as this is a prerogative of the State Construction Inspectorate. The tragic accident that resulted in the death of a child occurred on 86 Columna Street on August 15.
