Mayor of Chisinau unwilling to cede two islands in “La Izvor” park

Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said that he will not comply with the Supreme Court of Justice’s decision whereby the Chisinau Municipal Council is obliged to cede the two small islands in the Park “La Izvor” to a private company. He demanded retrying the case, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the mayor, the restaurant “La Izvor”, which isn’t working, was privatized in dubious conditions in 2008. “The 4 ares of land on which the restaurant is located were sold illegally,” Dorin Chirtoaca told the journalists during a visit to the scene. He said that the restaurant and the land were later purchased by another firm - Finpar Invest – which went to court and asked to be given also the two islands situated in the middle of the lake as they form part of the area adjoining the restaurant. The mayor invited the press to a journey by boat to the islands. “It is absurd. You saw ourselves that the islands can be reached without crossing somebody’s property,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. He also said that the 4 ares of land shouldn’t have been sold as the green areas in Chisinau cannot be privatized. The press reported that the firm that claims the islands is headed by Ghenadie Sajin, who is an acquaintance of First Deputy Speaker Vladimir Plahotniuc and the son-in-law of Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko. “I do not have evidence and cannot assert that Vladimir Plahotniuc is involved, but admit it. An ordinary person cannot go through all the courts and win the case. We have been in litigation since 2009 and will not give up until we bring the land back under state ownership,” said Chirtoaca. “They have spoken about principles and values for two years. These plots are a value of the capital city. I read the journalistic investigation into this case. Many names are mentioned there and the prosecutors should investigate the case.” According to real estate agents, 1 are of land in the Park “La Izvor” costs about €10,000. The two islands claimed by Finpar Invest occupy an area of 41 ares and cost over €2 million.
