Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca refutes the accusations that he fixed the tender contest staged by the City Hall to select a contractor for repairing streets in the capital city and exceeded his authority when he signed the lending contract with the EBRD, made by a number of Chisinau councilors., IPN reports.

In the program “Place for dialogue” on the public station Radio Moldova, Dorin Chirtoaca said all these accusations are political in character and represent an attack on the Chisinau City Hall. “Everything was legal. If you do nothing, they criticize you and if you do something they find other reasons to discredit you. I was informed that searches will be performed at my place and at the homes of my brother and my parents. The Municipal Council blocked a number of projects of public interest not only once,” he stated.

The mayor specified that the rehabilitation of the streets V. Alecsandri, C. Negruzzi and Stefan cel Mare si Sfant could be stopped as the EBRD may withdraw its financing following the misunderstandings between the municipal councilors and the City Hall.

In the same program, Dorin Chirtoaca criticized the Government for doing nothing to develop the infrastructure of Chisinau. “Immediately after the new Government is formed, after the November 30 elections, I will put forward a plan for developing the capital city. We want more things to be done, including building roads and bridges, amending the laws so that we could efficiently fight street trading and unauthorized constructions. No government did something to develop the infrastructure of this city, by building at least one road,” he said.

A commission of inquiry into the tender contest held to select the contractor for repairing Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd, Costache Negruzzi Blvd and Vasile Alecsandri St earlier this week accused Dorin Chirtoaca of protectionism in choosing the winner of the contest. The EBRD provided €22 million to the City Hall for rehabilitating six streets in Chisinau.
