More than 20 criminal cases were started against the mayor of Baltata village of Criuleni district Olga Coronciuc, including over swindle and traffic of influence, but she continues to work. The most serious fact is that the police cannot arrest her because she has seven children, the chairman of the National Anticorruption Council “Moldova Mea” Fiodor Ghelici said in a news conference, quoted by IPN.

Fiodor Ghelici said that Olga Coronciuc was fielded for the post of mayor by the Communist Party and all the illegalities are committed in front of the eyes of the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin.

“After we made an inquiry to the Prosecutor General’s Office, we found out that over 20 criminal cases were started against the mayor because she lied to a number of students who wanted to go abroad to work through the agency of the travel agency that she owns. We discussed the case of this woman, who wasn’t mayor then yet, with Prime Minister Vlad Filat and with Viorel Chetraru (the director of the National Anticorruption Center – e.n.). When Filat asked why measures aren’t taken, Chetraru said that Olga Coronciuc gives birth to children intentionally so that she cannot be jailed,” stated Fiodor Ghelici.

Baltata resident Veaceslav Falenciuc said that the auctions to sell land in the village are not held transparently and the mayor’s husband is involved in all the illegalities. The plots are initially sold at very low prices and then are resold for hundreds of thousands of euros. But the money is never transferred to the village’s budget.

Ivan Oleinichenko, local councilor on behalf of the Liberal Democratic Party, said that he left the post owing to the illegal sales of land as he does not want to be blamed by the voters alter the illegal schemes are revealed. All the plots in the village were already sold and only the road and the meadow on which the cows pastured are owned by the village.
