Mayor discusses security measures in schools

Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has requested information on what security measures exist in schools and kindergartens after a TV channel demonstrated how easy it was for strangers to trespass, Info-Prim Neo reports. Municipal education chief Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb has said the institutions that employ doormen pay for their services from parents' contributions, as the municipality doesn't budget any money for this purpose. In those institutions which don't have doormen, the doors cannot be locked during classes for fire safety reasons. The Mayor requested a report on how western countries handle such issues. The report is also expected to make recommendations and present a concept for school security. “If the Ministry of the Interior finds that the level of risks is very high and that every institution must have a guard and a video surveillance system, then we should gradually start implementing such measures”, said Chirtoaca. The Mayor also revealed that the Education Division will receive from the 2013 City Budget 14 million lei to fill vacancies.
