Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, accompanied by a number of Moldovan officials, was stopped by a patrol of German customs officers during a working visit to Mannheim. The officials were asked if they have cigarettes and money, IPN reports.
In the March 25 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, Dorin Chirtoaca said that he felt uneasy when the car in which they traveled was stopped by German policemen, who inquired if they had cigarettes.
”The police stopped us when we entered Germany. They asked us who we were, where we came from and how much money we had. We presented ourselves and told how much money we had got. The next question was if we had cigarettes and how many. I had six packs of cigarettes bought from Romania. The cigarette problem is probably known in Germany too. I answered the questions with embarrassment. It’s not pleasant to know that the country from where you come is under suspicion,” he stated.
Dorin Chirtoaca paid a visit to Mannheim, which is twinned with Chisinau, on March 19-22.
