Mayor caught taking bribe
The mayor of Sagaidac village of Cimislia district was arrested for asking 17,000 lei for facilitating the signing of a document showing that the works to build the local secondary school have been completed, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC).
On the basis of the given document, the informer was to receive the money for the provided services. The mayor was arrested in the mayor’s office on November 20, after he took €900 marked ‘CCCEC bribe’. The money was found in the mayor’s pocket. Earlier, the civil servant received 2,000 lei, also under the Center’s control.
The mayor is held at the CCCEC’s remand unit and will remain there for 72 hours. On November 23, the judge is to take a decision as regards his arrest.
If found guilty, the mayor will serve up to ten years in jail and will be fined up to 60 000 lei. He will also be banned from holding a particular post for up to five years.
