Mayor arrested for influence peddling

The mayor of Radulenii-Vechi village, Floresti district, was arrested for 72 hours by the officers of the National Anticorruption Center. He is suspected of having extorted 9000 lei for “arranging” a tender, IPN reports.

According to the citizen who reported him, the mayor and a former employee of the Floresti district council demanded 9000 lei in order to influence a member of the Soroca Chamber of Industry and Commerce to assess some cars below their real value. They also were to influence the members of the tender commission so that the informer would win the tender.

If he is found guilty, the mayor risks up to 6 years in jail or a fine between 60,000 and 80,000.
