The General Mayor of Chisinau Municipality, Ion Ceban, believes that the actions of the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) against municipal officials are intended to intimidate. These statements were made during a press conference where the mayor commented on the arrest of Vitalie Mihalache, the Head of the General Directorate for Urban Mobility, IPN reports.
"In the end, they came up with a verdict and found Vitalie Mihalache to be the greatest 'criminal,' placing him in jail for 30 days. Couldn’t they have left the man under house arrest? Where would a father of four children run to?" stated Ion Ceban.
In his view, the arrest was intended to scare and intimidate. "I have always said that whoever is guilty should face justice. But justice should not be televised, political, but fair and independent", the mayor added.
The Chisinau Court, Ciocana Branch, ordered the detention of seven individuals arrested by the CNA in several cases involving public procurement fraud. Preventive detention orders of 30 days were issued for the Head of the General Directorate for Urban Mobility and his deputy. Four representatives of economic agents were also arrested, while another was placed under house arrest.
