May 9 will be marked in different ways in Chisinau. Some plan to celebrate the Victory against Fascism in World War II that ended 68 years ago, while others will protest against the concert that will be held in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau in the afternoon, IPN reports.
A meeting involving senior officials dedicated to the Victory Day will be held at the memorial complex “Eternity” at 09.00. It will be followed by laying of flowers at the “Eternal Fire” memorial and at the monuments “Stele of Moldovan Heroes” and “Grieving Mother”.
A commemoration meeting will also take place at the memorial complex “Serpeni Bridge Head” in Serpeni. There will be held festive concerts and commemoration meals for veterans of World War II in Chisinau and other settlements of Moldova.
A song festival themed “Victory 68” will be staged on May 9. All those who will visit the national museums, including the Center of Military History and Culture, will have free access.
The Party of Communists, together with its sympathizers, will come together at the Triumphal Arch in the Great National Assembly Square at 09.00. From there, they will go on a march to the memorial complex “Eternity”, where they will lay flowers and will hold a commemoration meeting.
The Party of Socialists will organize events in 15 districts of the country. The Socialists will clean up 15 military cemeteries, will distribute 15,000 Saint George Ribbons and will lay flowers at monuments to those killed. The Socialists will pay visits at the homes of about 1,500 veterans to congratulate them.
A festive concert involving the orchestra of the Ministry of the Interior and national artists will start in the central square of Chisinau at 12.00. Russian singers Lev Leshchenko and Iosif Kobzon are the special invitees. The concert is organized with the support of the Russian Embassy.
The civic platform “Action-2012” intends to protest against the concert. The Party of Regions, the Party “Moldova’s Patriots” and the Socialist Party announced they will together constitute a group that will monitor the situation so as to prevent provocations on May 9.
