Maxim Lebedinski, adviser to President Igor Dodon, said in a democratic state a particular opinion should not be imposed. He referred to the parliamentary majority’s position concerning the President, who was suspended from office for his refusal to promulgate a number of laws. The adviser said namely the imposition of a positon was the reason for which such a situation was witnessed, IPN reports.

“All these situations were to be liquidated by negotiations. It is normal to do so. All the problems related to the state and the state interests should be taken by political decisions, negotiations and equitable balancing,” stated Maxim Lebedinski.

According to him, the Constitutional Court should be outside politics and should ensure a balance between the state institutions and in society.

Spokesman for the Democratic Party Vitalie Gamurari wondered how many cases are there in the word when a President violates the Constitution. “When Parliament or the parliamentary majority undertakes to govern in the Republic of Moldova, it should be sure it reaps the benefits of this government. So, it should be sure that the person named to the post or the normative document it promotes will bring positive effects to society so as to be able to respond at the end,” he noted.

According to Vitalie Gamurari, the PDM considers the suspension of Igor Dodon is an act aimed at overcoming the situation given that the President didn’t fulfil his duties. This is a legal gap for which the Constitutional Court found a solution.

On December 10, President Igor Dodon was suspended from office by the Constitutional Court for the fifth time based on a requisition filed by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu and Democratic MP Sergiu Sârbu. It happened after President Dodon refused to sign a package of laws, among which was law on the Code of Audiovisual Media Services and the law to sell the site of the former National Stadium to the U.S. Embassy for building a new head office there.
