Maxim Dubarenco becomes double champion at Masters Moldova
Tennis player Maxim Dubarenco ended 2011 on a high note. He became absolute champion at the Master Moldova tournament that reunited the best Moldovan players.
Dubarenco won the senior tournament after defeating Alexandru Cozbinov in the final, 6-3, 6-4. The 18 year old had no problem in the junior final either. He bested Igor Turcan 6-4, 7-5.
The winners of other age categories were Alexandru Cozbinov (U-16), Maxim Bulat (U-14) and Vasile Dontu (U-12).
In the women’s tournament, Anastasia Vdovenco surprised by defeating the main favorite Iulia Helbet, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Vdovenco was 56 minutes late, although the regulation permits only a 15 minutes delay. Nevertheless, the final was played and the champion avoided a technical defeat.
After Alina Soltanici’s withdrawal, Daniela Ciobanu became champion in the U-16 category. Alisa Martanov and Alexandra Zaicenco won the U-14 and U-12 tournaments respectively.
72 tennis players participated in the Masters 2011 tournament. The competition had an award fund of 20,000 lei, Info-Prim Neo reports.
