Maternity hospital built in Chisinau by German prisoners turns 60
The municipal maternity hospital No. 2 is celebrating today, October 1, 60 years of the foundation. As many as 165,000 children have been born there since then, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The maternity hospital's director Tatiana Gutium, who was appointed to the post two years ago, said the rumors about the problems faced by the hospital are not true. “We carry out sanitation works, do tests. The building was planned as a maternity hospital,” she said.
Obstetrician Galina Fistican said the hospital has six delivery rooms. The patients are satisfied, while the rumors that there is mould and wall fissures at the hospital are spread by opponents. She also said the birth rate remained at the same level as the previous years. About 2,000 children are born at the municipal maternity hospital No. 2 every year.
Minister of Health Vladimir Hotineanu, who is celebrating his birthday the same day, said he is satisfied with the work done by the maternity hospital's doctors. He refused to answer the questions about corruption in the health system, saying only bad people can spread malicious rumors.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the maternity hospital during 60 years achieved incontestable results. “The fact that we face problems is not a secret, but we can solve these problems if we all want to. If somebody considers there rights have been violated, they can appeal to court, but every case should be examined separately,” he said.
Asked by journalists if he wants his first child to be born at that hospital, Dorin Chirtoaca said he is not against.
The municipal maternity hospital No.2 was founded in 1950. It was built by German prisoners.
