Twenty one children in Chisinau left without parental care and who are going to school for the first time this year will receive 5000 lei from the Municipality. The kids attended the yearly meeting on children’s rights, organized by the municipal division for children’s rights on Tuesday, August 22, IPN reports.
Rodica Terehovschi, the acting head of the division, said that every year children left without parental care receive material aid in order to buy the necessary supplies before the start of school. This year, the kids will receive 5000 lei, which 1000 lei more than last year. “We are supporting them this year as well. They will also enjoy free food and free trolleybus passes. Together, we can improve their lives”, said the official.
“Starting from September 1, you will have more responsibilities. You will have to face many challenges, because each and everyone of you wants to become someone and now it will be up to you and only you if you succeed or not. I am sure you will have enough will, as well as support from the grown-ups that are close to you, so that your dreams can come true”, Lucia Caciuc, mayor’s advisor on social issues, told the children.
Dumitru Darea, advisor to the children’s ombudsman, said that the office of ombudsman is meant to protect childhood and children’s rights. “In the name of ombudsman Maia Banarescu, I wish you luck in the new road you are starting on. It’s a path with highs and lows, but don’t be afraid of what’s ahead – every start is a good thing”, he added.
According to the Chisinau municipal registers, there are 1510 children left without parental care – 421 of them are adopted, 884 are under tutelage or guardianship, 39 are receiving professional parental care, and 166 are living in boarding institutions.
