Mass unemployment in Transnistria is a fait accompli, Transnistrian official

“The mass unemployment in the Transnistrian region is a fait accompli. The situation on the labor market is getting worse. In Tiraspol, 45% of the workers were made redundant from their jobs,” said Snejana Cernogor, the director of the Tiraspol Employment Center, Info-Prim-Neo’s correspondent reports. The Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov instructed the local administrations to work out and present their own anti-crisis measures. A sum of 2 million rubles (2.7 million lei) was allocated from the region’s budget for paying salaries to the unemployed persons in Tiraspol that will be engaged for public works. “In fact, only 100 jobless persons will be employed for such works,” Snejana Cernogor said. The salary will be 725 rubles (1,006 lei). Bender town has 1 million rubles (1.3 million lei) available to pay salaries to persons that will sign contacts with companies that carry out public works. More than 1,000 persons have registered at the Employment Center in Rabnita since January. About 200 persons will be hired for pubic works. A sum of 500,000 rubles (694,000 lei) was allocated to the town for the purpose. The number of persons that have registered at Employment Centers during January-March this year is threefold higher compared with the corresponding period last year.
