Married couple killed in house fire

A husband and wife died from carbon monoxide poisoning in their house in Talmaza village of Stefan Voda district. Most probably the fire was caused by a smoldering cigarette. Liliana Puscasu, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the firefighters were alerted in the afternoon of October 26. When on the spot, they found destroyed objects and two bodies in one of the rooms. Mayor of Talmaza Ion Ursu told the Agency that the man and the woman were retired and were both aged 62. The man had worked as a guard at the local tractor station. The couple’s children are married and have their own families. From October 27, inspectors of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service will go from home to home, especially in villages, and check the heating installations. They will tell the people about the dangers posed by fires. Special attention will be devoted to the lonely elderly persons. The inspections will continue until the end of the cold season. The 1 700 fires that happened in Moldova so far this year resulted in 98 deaths. Four of the victims were children. Twelve persons were killed last year in the 220 fires caused by faulty heaters.
