The four lanes on the viaduct from Centru district to Botanica district were replaced by three in a move to broaden the maneuvering space for trolleybuses.

Contracted by IPN, head of the municipal road maintenance company “Exdrupo” Stefan Racu said the street markings are applied in coordination with the National Patrolling Inspectorate and the Municipal Transport Division. If need be, the marking schemes are modified. As regards the viaduct, three was a request to modify the scheme because it was hard for trolleybuses to move when there were four lanes as these didn’t have enough space on the right lane. It was decided to mark three lanes to offer more maneuvering space to trolleybuses.

Towards the end of the viaduct, the fourth lane reappears. This is necessary to fluidize traffic and to favor turning to the right, where there is a green arrow.

As regards the mayor general’s request to narrow the lanes according to the European model so as to ease traffic, made a year ago, Stefan Racu said the Government’s approval is required for implementing such a model.
