The Republic of Moldova is welcomed in the European Union, said the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament Markéta Pekarová Adamová. In a meeting with Moldovan Speaker Igor Grosu, the Czech official said that her country will offer Moldova expertise in the European integration process. To Ukraine, the Czech Republic will offer military support until Russia is defeated in this war. For his part, Igor Grosu said that neutrality does not mean ignoring of the defense capabilities and the Republic of Moldova intends to invest in this area, IPN reports.
“We discussed issues related to energy security and security in the region, which affects the Republic of Moldova. The fact that Gazprom unjustifiably cut the natural gas supplies by 30% makes our situation more difficult. But we are sure that together with our friends, our neighbors, we will find solutions to this predictable problem,” stated Speaker Igor Grosu.
He asked the Czech Republic to help attract cohesion funds. “Given the latest events, when three missiles launched from the Black Sea crossed the airspace of the Republic of Moldova, we realized once again that we need to invest in our defense systems. We look for solutions not only to follow rockets or flying objects. We also need systems that can put up resistance to such challenges. Even if the fifth column opposes, we tell them that neutrality does not mean not defending the airspace as well. On the contrary, with such a status, increased attention should be devoted to this dimension. If we refer to land military operations, there is no immediate danger here,” said the Moldovan official.
In the joint news conference, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament said the war in Ukraine should make the EU member states and the associated countries keep unity and solidarity.
“The Czech Republic wants to give a firm signal to the Republic of Moldova, that it is welcomed in the European Union. Not only Moldova needs the EU. We need each other. We help Ukraine to win this war. There is no other option. Since the outbreak of the war, we have supplied munitions and equipment. The security of the whole region is a priority for us. We realize the tiredness in society but we must maintain unity between the EU member states and the associated countries. We will maintain the sanctions imposed on Russia. We are considering the possibility of imposing new sanctions and we will continue with the military support until the end of this war,” stated Markéta Pekarová Adamová.
In time, the Czech Republic supported over 50 projects in the Republic of Moldova, investing more that €14 million in the country. The building of a wastewater treatment plant in Briceni is the most recent project financed by the Czech Republic in the Republic of Moldova.
