Marius Lazurca: Restoration of visa regime for Moldova is less probable

Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca said it is less probable that the EU will impose again visas on the Moldovan citizens. He made such a statement in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

“The European Union does not take revenge on the citizens of a country because they chose a government that is not approved of by Brussels. The decision to liberalize the visas wasn’t taken overnight. The Government of Moldova made considerable effort to obtain this liberalized regime. Hundreds of measures were taken to fulfill the tasks set by the EU. The visa regime could be imposed only if reforms in the areas of border police and border security are abandoned,” said the diplomat.

Marius Lazurca considers that Moldova has yet to cover a long path until accession to the EU. “Unlike Romania, Moldova covered a more difficult path. First of all, Moldova had to clarify the national identity issue. Anyway, the EU will continue to support Moldova, he stated.

The ambassador urged the ruling politicians to continue to do reforms. “The EU offer for Moldova is assistance for reforms. The benefits of these reforms will be enjoyed not only by the citizens of EU, but also by those of Moldova. .When the people see the results of the reforms in education, justice and healthcare, the number of those who will support the European integration will grow suddenly. You need patience and to continue the reforms,” he stated.

Marius Lazurca approved of the political dialogue between Chisinau and Bucharest, saying it is now more consistent than ever. “Starting with 2010, our Presidents have met seven times, while our Prime Ministers – 14 times, not mentioning other high-ranking officials. Romania will continue to disinterestedly help Moldova,” he said.
