Marius Lazurca: People are disappointed and we must understand them

The people are disappointed in the political class, but we cannot say that nothing was done, Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Marius Lazurca, who is completing his duties, said in the talk show “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, commenting on the situation in Moldova, IPN reports.

“The citizens of the Republic of Moldova in 2009 invested a new dose of confidence in the political class that promised reforms and European integration. But, especially after the theft of the billion, the people do not see the long-awaited changes. This disappointment must be accepted and its causes must be identified. We also were disappointed when a pro-European government was invested with such a great difficulty after the elections of 2014. But I would yet make a distinction between the political power than was before 2009 and the political power that was established by the enthusiasm of the square. Nothing was done after 2009 and this is not right. The fact that the Moldovans can travel visa-free is a success,” stated Marius Lazurca.

The Romanian diplomat said he knew about the bank fraud and has differing feelings about the trial of ex-Premier Vlad Filat. “I had a very good relationship with Vlad Filat, who was an agent of the bilateral relationship between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. But I learned from credible sources about the developments in the banking system. I knew that Banca de Economii was being abused by powerful people and that this abuse started before the new political class came to power. Vlad Filat is not a stranger to me, but I cannot treat with suspicion the information provided by prosecutors,” he stated.

Marius Lazurca said that during his term he had discussions with all the political leaders of Moldova, except for the chairman of the Party of Communists Vladimir Voroni, who erroneously asserted that Romania organized the events of April 2009.

Asked what he thought about Moldova’s union with Romania, Marius Lazurca avoided answering given his position, but said that the keeping of the words “the Moldovan language” in the Constitution represents betrayal of the Declaration of Independence.
