Șor Party MP Marina Tauber remained without parliamentary immunity. The MPs of Șor Party also voted in favor, IPN reports.
Acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu said that a criminal case was started against Marina Tauber on July 19 over the falsification of the report on the financial management of Șor Party for the first half of 2022, with the intention of hiding a part of the accumulated and used funds. This criminal case was connected to another cased started on January 21 over reasonable suspicions that Șor Party and the campaign prior to the local mayoral elections of November 21, 2021 were financed illegally.
The prosecutor said that there is sufficient evidence showing that the report on the financial management of the party that was presented to the Central Election Commission contained false data. In the period, the party paid US$260,000 to Russian singers for a concert set to take place in Chisinau on June 19. For the transportation of participants to the protest mounted in the central square of Chisinau, the party paid 3.5 million lei to different companies and private individuals. Also, the party pays €100,000 monthly to its members. The costs for the first half total 20.5 million lei.
In her speech, Marina Tauber said the decision to lift her immunity is a political one. Her party mates also voted in favor of lifting the immunity as they are not afraid and do not have what to hide. The fact that she is now in Parliament, even if she knew she could be arrested, proves that she is innocent. The MP called on the supporters of Șor Party to be more united and to go on.
The two decisions on the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of Marina Tauber were adopted by the votes of 58 and, respectively, 57 MPs. They will be remitted to the acting prosecutor general within three days.
In accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the MPs cannot be detained, arrested or searched if only in cases they are caught red-handed.
