MP Marina Tauber said that she lost count of the requests made by the prosecutor general to have her parliamentary immunity lifted. The reasons are also not clear to her. In a press briefing, Marina Tauber noted that there is a chaos in which the prosecutor general, the Prosecutor General’s Office and other law enforcement institutions are puppets in the hands of those who are in power, IPN reports.
“I want to ask you, because I already don’t know for how many times this immunity was lifted. Moreover, for what?” said the MP.
The acting prosecutor general’s request refers to the court hearing at which Ilan Shor was sentenced by the Court of Appeals. Then, Marina Tauber and Shor’s supporters entered the courtroom with megaphones to ask the judges not to allow to be influenced by politicians. “This is what I’m blamed for and the entire Prosecutor General’s Office is dealing with this. So, after I and some ladies chanted slogans, organized a flash-mob meeting to draw the attention of citizens, ambassadors and society to this case, end up having my immunity lifted,” stated Marina Tauber.
At the beginning of today’s sitting of Parliament, there was presented interim prosecutor general Ion Munteanu’s request to lift the parliamentary immunity of Marina Tauber. This time, the lawmaker is accused of interfering with the administration of justice. Marina Tauber was earlier stripped of parliamentary immunity and faced other charges, including falsification of campaign and party funding reports and acceptance of illegal funding from an organized criminal group. In accordance with the procedures, a new process of immunity lifting is required for each charge.
