Mariana Durleșteanu, who was proposed by the Party of Socialists (PSRM) for Premier, withdrew her candidacy. She said she cannot allow her name and reputation to be used in the settling of old scores between political clans and she accepted to be nominated only because she wanted to help overcome the crises and move things on, IPN reports.

“I’m withdrawing now, but I promise I will not leave public life. The bitter experience of the last few months made me want to become involved in the country’s life even more, to help the citizens, to fight for them. I want to believe and forcefully hope that in the next snap elections, there will be place for a new political class, with a veritable moral fiber and this will help transform the country to the better so that we bring Europe at home. I bank on the solidarity that is typical for us, Moldovans, and I promise to become involved to bring about the change for which I voted,” Mariana Durleșteanu posted on Facebook.

On February 11, Natalia Gavrilița, the candidate for Prime Minister designated by President Maia Sandu, didn’t obtain any vote in Parliament, the first attempt to invest the Government failing this way. In the same sitting, the PSRM announced the formation of a parliamentary majority that proposed ex-minister of finance Mariana Durleșteanu for Premier. Also then, Maia Sandu nominated again Natalia Gavrilița for premiership, but her decree was later declared unconstitutional.

The PSRM reiterated its proposal to invest a Government led by Mariana Durleșteanu, but said that is ready to also discuss the solutions proposed by the other parliamentary groups.
